the life of a ballerina.

a little thing called,
"the nutcracker",
has taken over my life as of late.

i'm so sorry for being a flaky post-er, please let me explain:
instead of letting my thoughts spill onto the keyboard,
my thoughts have turned into visions of sugar plums, who dance in my head.
instead of spending hours on pinterest drooling over new boots to buy-
i cram my feet into pointe shoes for five hours a day.
instead of staying up late to snuggle with lovebird at night-
i make him message my sore muscles until his hands ache.
instead of singing the christmas carols, that i so adore-
i find myself humming the waltz of the flowers, from rehearsal the night before.
instead of studying for finals, cleaning the house or making dinner-
i come home to an unopened text book a dusty house. oh, well.
instead of flying home for christmas 'the normal', several days in advance-
i perform up until the christmas eve, to the very last second.

all of this business is hard work and adds to the already crazy holiday season.
however, as much as my muscles may ache, my hours with lovebird are limited,
my studying gets put on the back burner and my life is hectic...
it is all worth it.
nutcracker is a beatuiful tradition;
one that i am so happy to be a part in,
and one that i look forward to taking my future little ones to.

so, please bare with me-
i promise to post as often as i can in between rehearsing and studying for finals.
until then, so you know exactly what i'm up to....
watch this trailer to our show!
challenge: can you find me?
hint: don't look for red hair- blonde instead!

p.s. is it a tradition of yours to go to the nutcracker?
if not, it's never too late to start now.
i'm certain no matter where you live,
a company nearby is putting on a production of it.
or, always check for the annual tv debut of the san francisco ballet's version.
{it is breathtaking, truly. get a taste of it here.}

  1. Oh how I love Nutcracker! I miss performing in it!!

I couldn't find you in the video =(

    Have a fabulous time performing!!

  2. Sounds like hard, but fun work! Hope you enjoy every minute :)

  3. aw i'm so jealous. i was in the nutcracker as a little girl and have so many special memories from it. i've wanted to see it for so long but it's always to expensive. but this year my family is going to see it right before christmas! i'm so excited!

  4. I did ballet throughout my childhood but haven't done it for a few years and am totally craving it now but i feel i've lost everything... sad day. BUT I've decided I'm going to take a beginners ballet at BYU... and i'm SO stoked!! Anyways, that is so fun that you're a part of the nutcracker!! That was my dream when I was a child! I can imagine it's slightly tiresome but nothing sounds better then some hot chocolate when you're tired and it's the christmas season:)

  5. OMG I can't dance for the life of me, but I can sure rock a pair of ballet flats. Does that count for anything?? :)) SO impressed/jealous of your talent.

Thanks so much for stopping by my little space :)) I love your site!

  6. I adore the Nutcracker! So wonderful.

  7. I don't feel that you need to apologize for anything! You're much better and more consistent at posting than I am. :) I so wish I could come see you perform in this! I remember going to ballets when I was younger and in dance classes, but it's been so long! I just might have to look for one around here.
And I did my best to spot you in the video, I think I might have, maybe, but not sure. haha Such beautiful dancing though!

  8. Thank you for stopping by my blog! Your site is adorable, and I'm feeling a little star struck with you being in the Nutcracker ballet and all. I've seen it once in Los Angeles when I was about 10, and I've always wanted to see it again. I made my kids watch the movie last year, and they really liked it. I'm thinking we'll see it next year at the brand new Center here in town. Thanks for sharing :-)

  9. so fun! wish we could come see you in it...let me know the dates! this made me excited for the SF ballet! xoxo

  10. I have never seen the Nutcracker.. will put it on my list of things to check out.
While somethings may not be getting your attention right now at least it's for the right reason.. what a great opportunity. Wishing you the best of luck

  11. thanks so much for your sweet comment on my blog!

I always wanted to be a ballerina but turned out a musician instead. It’s just as well, as I have two left feet!! :)
